I decided to check out the HASH. Well, it started with all the talk about the days of riding kemansah being numbered on the fakawitribe.com forums. I casually thought… “shit! I must try that place”. OK, I usually ride the rough stuff but I have been known to dabble in a bit of trail riding with my soulmate in FRIM and between the 2 of us, we have always wanted to check it out. (Plus Black Beauty has not gone out for a spin for a long time. Back to topic…) |

RedRide's Race/Ride report |

An amazing ride. I have now raced with this rig for 2 races and the verdict is: Just what the Doctor ordered!!! Anyway a brief race report for my race in The Kiara Downhill Domination Race#3 (KDD3). KDD3 registered the highest number of DH participants Malaysia have seen. A truly great achievement and one that is well deserved on pure volunteer power (The FRM Guys+++, Powerstik, the comittee) and support from sponsors like (dirtworks, Folker, Redbull, Camelbak, Redbull, electcom and especially KSH Cycles) |

Bike Review: The Banshee Pyre |
|
Written by Joe Adnan
|
As mentioned in an earlier post, I had the occasion to borrow the Fakawibikes demo Banshee Pyre, which I rode during the last hash .

The conclusion: it’s a very efficient suspension design, with little or no bobbing during climbing. Banshee describes the suspension system as a “virtual floating 4 bar pivot”. To my untrained eye, it looks very much like a DW-link. Whatever the genesis of the design, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Not only does it climb well, the bike is also very neutral under braking, with no stiffening of the suspension under hard braking. Standing up on the bike or getting off the saddle in descents also does not appear to affect the activeness of the suspension. |

Some Bike Hash Basics for Riders |
|
Written by Kuala Lumpur MTB Hash
|
In general terms, the purpose of a Bike Hash is to provide an unguided social ride that can be enjoyed by both new and experienced riders, even in unfamiliar terrain. Weeks or months in advance of a Hash an area will be explored by a small group of riders called “Hares” who are responsible for setting the hash. They will plot out two trails, the “Long Ride” (longer and more challenging), and the “Scenic Ride” (shorter and easier), and mark them with paper, flour, signage and other methods, leaving gaps called “Checks” at intervals to provide a challenge for the hashers and keep the pack together.
These gaps in the trail markings force the faster riders to explore in order to find where the trail resumes. The lead riders are expected to find where the trail resumes and use extra paper to fill in these gaps so that slower riders can thus follow a complete trail. In this way riders of vastly different fitness and ability can share the same ride and still have an enjoyable time.
