|
|
TRAKS has received approval to build a bike wash at Lembah Kiara.
This is a facility for bikers to clean their bikes after descending Carnival.
The construction is very simple and we need a handyman who can build this facility at a low cost.
If you know a reliable handyman who can do the job, please let me know by sending me a pm or posting here. The cost of the facility will be borne by donations although Traks will pay first.
The job will require :
1. Building a concrete silt trap
2. Fabricating and erecting galvanised pipes to hang the bikes.
3. Plumbing works to construct 2 taps and to connect to the mains.
4. To construct a TRAKS signage and rules of usage.
The approved site is located behind the existing toilet block however we are now looking at locating the bike wash closer to the forest. |

There is an important significance in building the bike wash frame. It means that the DBKL recognises the presence of mtbikers in Kiara. Whereas post-equestrian trails issue, we were nearly a non-existent entity. Please help by recommending a good handyman for this job.
Traks was formed in response to the Equestrian issue and continues to serve the general mtb interest in all matters related to Kiara including the recent 'Hyde Park' development. At present, we have a general agreement with the DBKL to separate the equestrian trails from the existing mtb trails. We have even submitted a map of our trails for future coordination. We are now working to be a recognised group in the new KL city park development. This is a long term effort by Traks and will update you as and when we have progress. |

HYH, I'm not sure what you mean by handyman, but why not hire a professional contractor to do it. I'm not sure about the rest, but I wouldn't want low cost to result in low quality work & material. I think we the mtb community should donate generously and build a damn good bike wash facility that looks & works good, which tells everybody at Kiara that we are legit users and here to stay so get used to it, buddy. How much do you think the construction of such a "damn good bike wash facility" would cost? IMO it doesn't have to be high tech or huge or anything, just well constructed & designed.
I think I posted this before but here it goes again. Its the only pic I could find on the net that resembles what I think a bike wash facility looks like usually.

| Point taken, Jason. And I am still hoping someone will step up and recommend a good contractor. |

I hope you riders understand the significance of this facility.
The bike wash indicates that through the efforts of TRAKS, DBKL now acknowledges our presence in the kiara trails.
We have now pissed and marked our little patch of mountainbiking territory in kiara with this.
So..please take good care of our little facility. |

Looks awesome!
This, you must all know, is a significant milestone for TRAKS. The North Shore, and other places here in Vancouver DOES NOT have a bike wash facility. Only the Whistler Bike Park, 2 hrs north of Vancouver, has such a facility.
A good sign, I hope, that KL City municipal (DBKL) is willing to collaborate w/ TRAKS. |

now that's a damn good looking bike wash facility! chrome bars... bling! love the understated grey concrete look too!
Now, how does one register to join TRAKs anyway? i would like to register as a member.
**And... the only reason i'm posting this at 6 in the morning is because i have an xc race in a couple of hours. wish me luck! Fakawis reprezent down south! |
