eheh. james and mystery woman are plannin on organising another one.

details are as follows
[quote]CAMERONS MUDD 2007 – a PainMaster Production

Mountainbike Until you Drop Dead (MUDD)!

Sat-Mon 28-30April 2007

50+ insane kilometres in Cameron Highlands. These days, there aren't many epic destinations for MTBs anymore. Janda Baik is ruined. Jim Thomson is no fun. And Others plantations too far away or just a best kept secret to a few. So this Camerons Epic is a gem. Not too far, high up in the mountains (not a rubber or palm tree in sight), great scenery, rugged terrain, isolated, great Camerons steamboat and best of all, cheap! So better book a place today. Read on and find out more.

Trail description

Ride starts from the MNS dorms. The place is a charm: old, spartan, but full of character. Perched a steep slope amidst tea bushes, the view from the wood paneled veranda is expansive, overlooking a rolling carpet of tea bushes. Watching the sunrise is a supremely satisfying experience.

The ride, or should we say, glide, starts with a rapid descent of about 1500 feet to Pos Mensun. Although the trail is mostly paved, unlike the pioneer days, it is still fun blast down. Be sure to wear some windbreaker stave off the chill.

Once we reach Pos Mensun, we will turn left instead of right (where the trail becomes a 7km killer push-a-bike to the Bertam Valley) and thus completing the infamous Jim Thomson Ride.

After another 700+/- feet elevation loss departing from Pos Mensun, we will end up in Pos Telanuk.

1/3 of the trail complete, it’s finally time for some proper epic sweat-your-undies-out ride. The trail begins to climb along a beautiful rocky-strewn river and huge trees before reaching the settlement of Pos Terakit, a pretty, peaceful Orang Asli Vilage.

Next stop will be an important one. We will take a break at a crystal clear river for lunch and a breather before the real climb begins. Most likely, you would have already exhausted your water supply and this will be a good place to refill.

After our lunch stop, the trail will change dramatically. It will be single track, uphill and slightly overgrown too. And you will certainly notice the sun beating down on you. After trudging through the stifling jungle, you will come to a welcomed river crossing. The broken weir in the river becomes an obvious clue as to why the trail had degenerated into an overgrown singletrack for the past 5km or so.

However, after crossing the river, the trail immediately opens in to a less claustrophobic path, we suspect from vehicles coming for some RnR via Pos Terisu.

Unfortunately, it also heralds the ascent from hell. Remember all that fantastic downhill at the start of the ride? It’s payback time buddy and buddettes. Get friendly with lactic acid burn in every muscle. The climb will be monstrous and long with many false peaks that will make even grown man cry. The good news, however, is that Pos Terisu is not far off, so the hills can be seen as a sign of the ride’s end.

Upon reaching Pos Terisu (ETA, 6pm latest) we’ll drop dead for the night, preferably with the bicycle between our legs removed first. We did say it will be a MUDD ride. Mountain Bike Until Drop Dead. Coming? No? Of course you are! Even Fei Chai Don’s asking for it!

Plan

Day 1 /28 Apr
RV at Tringkap Cameron Highlands for lunch.
(Faster to get there via new highway, it’s nearer.)
Plant cars at Pos Terisu.
Drive to MNS bungalow in Boh Plantation, Ringlet.
Relax.

Day 2 /29Apr
Check out of MNS bungalow.
Load luggage into car.
Ride to Pos Terisu. 50+km.

Get stuff from planted cars, tent, food, clothes, etc.

Day 3 /30Apr
Depart Pos Terisu.
Free and Easy.
(Don't forget to pick up cars from MNS bungalow)

Things you need
This will sound like bringing along the kitchen sink. But it’s necessary. So pack sensibly. For example, don’t bring along a full tube of sunblock. Squeeze some into a small container. Don’t bring a heavy windbreaker. Those single layer got-it-free ones will do the trick.

Bike in Tip Top condition. I cannot stress this more, unless you are the sort of person who enjoys hike a bike.
Spare tube, pump and patches.
Chain lube.
Tool kit.
Sunblok.
Walkie-Talkie, if you have one.
3 litre water bladder.
Water filter, share with ride buddy (there will be 2 river refill stops, don’t kill yourself lugging around a lot of water).
Got-it-free windbreaker (Riding in the highlands can be chilly. Riding in the highlands when it’s raining can be murder).
Rehydrating salts highly recommended.
Personal first aid.
Small LED light, bike tail lights, if things go too slow. We should make it to Pos Terisu by 6pm latest, but you never know.
Lots of light-to-carry, high-energy food. Bring enough to last a 12 hours or more.
Vaseline for your crotch for those not used to riding in wet, damp and humid conditions. Chaffed crotch is no fun.
Insect repellent. Not a must, but every bit of comfort helps.
Tent, sleeping bag, heavy sweater, fresh change of clothes for 1 night stay in Post Terisu. Cookware, food and toiletries too.

Important

As this ride is dependent on the planting of vehicles at Pos Terisu, it is best if you can find a buddy to also drive. That way you can share cars. As well, those with expensive cars might not want to drive up to the MNS dorms in Boh Tea as the road is of the gravel sort and slightly rutted. The road to from Tringkap - Pos Terisu, although paved, is very badly rutted and is full of potholes. 4x4s advised!

Optional

Masochists (Lee Nya?) have the option of camping at Pos Terisu and riding all the way back next morning to MNS Chalets to pick up car. Distance of about 30km in hilly terrain.

Clause

Plan is approximate. Final plans depend on end of March reccee.

Apply for leave now

Ride will be Sat-Mon, 28-30 April. You will need to take the 30th (Monday) off. Do it now. Not later, tomorrow, afterwards, soon, in a while, shortly, or in a minute. 1st May is a Public Holiday. Relax in Camerons (accommodation on your own) or recuperate in hospital.

How much?

RM40 per head to cover 1 night in Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Chalets in Boh Tea Estate, pre-ride reccee cost, etc.

How to register?

Call the PainMaster James on 012-3458204 or Lee Nya at 012-22777798.

So, in effect that's 2 rides in one right? The 2nd epic is where the Mystery Woman rides back instead of taking the easy option... *gulp*

should also consider some training prior to the ride....honestly not a walk in the park.....I wasn't quite ready for it last year and felt the punishment........but still glad i did the first one, albeit in such a state of "bonk"

Have fun dudes and I expect a great write up with loads of pics....

Aite?! :smt006
