Kiara Trailquest 20/11/2011

NOTE: This is a repost. Being an idiot I accidentally deleted the previous post.
NOTE: the date has been changed from 13th to 20th.

The theme for this event - No guts, no glory.

(Cut and paste from previous event)
Kiara Trailquest #2

What it is: Mountain Bike Orienteering in Kiara
When is it: 9:00 am Sunday 20th November.
NOTE: Race starts at 9am so please arrive at least 8.30am.
Where to meet: 4 Ways Junction
What you need: Just the usual for a 1 hour ride.

Basic idea:
The idea of a Trailquest (or Mountain Bike Orienteering) event is very simple. You will be provided with a map of the area that shows 10 checkpoints located within Kiara. Your goal is to visit as many checkpoints as possible within the 2 hour time limit. Each checkpoint has a points value that relates to how far away it is from the start point. The further you have to go, the bigger the reward. However, if you return to the finish outside of the finish time you begin to lose points. The route you take to get to the checkpoint is entirely up to you. It is that simple.

Quick facts;
Number of checkpoints: 10
Ride time: 1 hours
Penalty for getting back late: 10 points per minute
(For the previous race it seems the time given might have been too much, so we're trying to make it a bit more interesting)

More info:I will set up the checkpoints on Saturday night. They will consist of an orienteering clipper tied to a tree with Awas tape. Their location will be marked on your map which you will receive, together with your punch card, on the day. Your time starts as soon as you receive your map (i.e. no pre-planning). When you visit a checkpoint you need to punch the relevant checkpoint on your card. I will then count up your points on your return. The beauty of a Trailquest is that there is no one correct route. You need to make up your own route based on your fitness and navigation skills. It is also important that you get back within the time limit (1 hours) or you could loose out big time. This combination usually leads to some unexpected results! Being fast is not everything, you also need to be able to plan your route, find your way and know when to turn back!

If you want to take part please send me a PM or drop me a line at riza.shaharudin at gmail.com, or click attend in facebook www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=202829276442880&ref=ts. We will meet at 9:00am at the 4 ways junction. It is free, everyone is welcome and there is no need to pre-register. All you need is the usual stuff for a 1 hour ride in Kiara. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the effort mynameiskoko. I will definitely try to make it. I've missed the Kiara TTs and this will make up for it.

Hi guys,
There's a request to postpone the event to 20th Nov, due to clashing with Terry Fox run. It seems a number of people keen on joining both events.

Seeing as how some people might have cleared their schedule and made preperations a long time ago for this event, I want some feedback. If you have any objections, please contact me. I only need one objection, and I'll stick with the original date. No objections, I'll change the date.

Thanks.

Ok, didn't get any objection so we're postponing to 20th.
